Foot and ankle injuries can be caused by accidental means, long-term wear, a naturally occurring abnormality or an illness like arthritis or diabetes. Take note of feelings of discomfort and bring your concerns to your doctor.

With our busy lifestyles, it’s hard to justify sitting for an extended period of time, but a foot or ankle injury is an exception. If you think you’ve sprained your ankle or fractured your foot, try to keep weight off of it as much as possible. At Midwest Orthopaedic Center, our imaging team can perform an X-ray or MRI to get a good look at what’s wrong. Then, your doctor will provide you with a plan –– whether that entails rest, physical therapy or the use of a cast or brace.

If pain or numbness keeps you off your feet, then your foot or ankle problem should be addressed immediately. If a sudden injury means your foot or ankle needs immediate attention, visit our walk-in service, Midwest Ortho First. Located in our Peoria location, Midwest Ortho First is an orthopaedic-focused alternative to the ER. There, your doctors are equipped to immobilize broken, strained or sprained body parts with casts, splints and braces. Plus, our in-house imaging capabilities allow doctors to get an immediate look at any fractures.

If you have a severe fracture, the cartilage in your ankle joint has worn down or you display another serious complication, your doctor may recommend surgery.
